When I quit smoking, not only did I gain weight, (going from a size 34 to a 40), but I also added acid reflux (from being over weight) and high cholesterol to the list. I was on two different medications for this. Any cost savings from quitting went out the window. I felt badly as my body mass index indicated I was "obese". I asked my doctor about it and the risk of heart trouble since I was so fat, and he was at a loss to explain how this trade off was making me healthier. So, I went back to smoking. Lost the weigh, and all other bad health issues went away too. Since there is no history of cancer in my family, but there is for being over weigh and having heart disease, I feel much better, and I am healthier. While I wish there were away around smoking, what's on the market today is very poor, and so is most of the advice.
